Ol' Blue

Linda calls hers "Steady Eddie" in the Game of Contact, we call ours "Ol' Blue" :))) It's amazing!!!! So is my awesome husband, Steve, for building it for me from looking at the GoC DVD. He drew up plans, just looked at Linda's and made it up. Jolene McDowell

I got involved to help Jo with her generous offer to make these plans available and save her from sending them out one at a time ; -) Jamie Greenebaum

All this effort, the plans, the sharing, is done with an open heart. No charge. No promises. No obligation. No litigation.

Steve drew them up. He told me he builds better than he draws. And he also took all the photos. You should be able to just print out everything.

I looked the plans over and had a few questions that I think further clarify things.

How long are the side boards? The ones that connect the Xs.
The two on the sides are 2x4's and the one on the bottom is a 2x6. Their length is 34" (the length of Ole’ Blue)

Is the barrel just resting in the cradle? Or attached in any way? I see the PVC pipe notes in diagram but don't understand.
The barrel is unsecured on ours but Linda used a tie down strap behind where she sits. This is probably a good idea but Jo hasn't been bucked off yet.

PVC pipe is 2" and I drilled a 2” hole on top and bottom side of barrel. The pipe just rests on the 2x6 under the X. Hopefully you can see on photo. I located the center of the hole just behind the rear band on the barrel.

How are the stirrup leathers attached to the barrel?
The stirrup leathers are tied together with a savvy string and each person adjusts to their liking. They are not connected to barrel as that helps your balance.

Have you watched Linda's Game of Contact DVD yet? That is where I got all my ideas. She did not hinge the neck and I think you should as it gives you more sensitivity with the reins.

Blogging about Horses

I am finally getting around to doing a blog for my Horse and Equestrian Jewelry website, JamiesHorseJewelry.com. And I got thinking, do you really want to read about how Sterling Silver is the new Gold? That charm bracelets are the rage? That you should collect horse jewelry from designers you love? That this or that piece of jewelry is what you absolutely must purchase for that horse loving equestrienne in your life?

I think not. I am going to make this blog about horses. After all that is why we buy horse jewelry – we love horses! I will post new jewelry pieces that I think will appeal to you. But overall this blog is going to be about horses!

Let start with Palominos. They have a golden coat and white mane and tail. Oh lets be honest we all know what they look like because of Roy Rogers' Trigger, just about the most famous TV and movie horse of all time.

Starting from Roy Rogers' very first leading role in "Under Western Stars" Trigger appeared in all of Roy's movies, over 80 of them. Trigger also appeared with Roy in all 100 episodes of The Roy Rogers Show on television, which aired on NBC from 1951 - 1957.

As Roy Rogers career soared to superstardom Trigger carried him along for the ride, becoming just as much an American icon as his human counterpart. As soon as Roy had enough influence with the movie studio he insisted that Trigger got top billing, right along with himself. Trigger dazzled audiences with his beauty and brains, performing a seemingly endless list of tricks that included untying ropes and shooting a gun.

While Roy and Trigger always stood for what was right they never let that get in the way of a lot of good, heart-pumping action. In movie after movie and in their television shows Roy and Trigger never failed to thrill audiences with their wild cowboy-and-faithful-horse adventures. Trigger and Roy not only starred in movies and television together but also made countless personal appearances all across the country, and tirelessly visited children in hospitals and shelters.

Mr. Ed was another famous Palomino TV horse. Do you know one?
